Last Friends

It’s been 2 months already since I’ve finished watching last friends. I just made my wordpress blog a few days ago so I’ve decided to post my old review of last friends here.

This goes to all of those people who haven’t seen last friends yet.
Firs and foremost, here are some reasons why you should watch last friends:

1. It received the BEST DRAMA award in the recently held Television Drama Academy Awards. It also won the best script and best director award.

2. Ueno Juri portrayed the role of a lesbian. It’s goodbye Nodame.

3.  The other members of the cast are pretty much well known for their acting skills. Nagasawa Masami, Eita, Nishikido Ryo, Mizukawa Asami and of course Ueno Juri. All of them portrayed roles that were different from what they usually portayed.

4. Ryo won the Best supporting actor award while Juri won the Best supporting actress award.

5. The story is just simply great.

Here’s the synopsis from dramawiki

Last Friends tackles issues that afflict the current generation. Michiru’s mother has brought a man back to their home and she is bullied at her workplace where she works as a beauty parlour assistant. She starts cohabiting with her boyfriend, a good young man who works at the Child Welfare Division and the only person who can give her emotional support, but ends up the victim of domestic violence and becomes fearful of love. The boyishly charming Ruka was a classmate of Michiru’s in junior high school. She has performed brilliantly as a motocross racer and aims to win the national championship, but as the story progresses, a deep worry that she can neither confide in her parents or close friends grows evident. Takeru is a hair and makeup artist acquainted with Ruka. He is a good confidant to females due to his kindness and perceptiveness, and finds himself attracted to Ruka but has a phobia of sex as a result of a past trauma. The three of them become house mates and through their associations with others, gain the capacity to be positive about life.  -Dramawiki

And my review….

Although the plot of the story may sound quite weird (love triangles with a lesbian, a gay dude, and a hairdresser) , I’m telling you that It’s what makes the drama really worth watching. For a human drama, It is considered as one of the bests. The issues they tackle in the Drama really happens in real life. It’s not your typical predictable type of drama. Although the drama was pretty much comedy-free (which made me not want to watch it at first), I must say that the drama really turned-out to be very enjoyable and interesting. There were a LOT of twists and confusion that even I, as the audience, felt so much.I was hiding under the blanket, throwing stuff at my computer and shouting all the time because of the scenes.:))The first episode was deadly; shocking me with the last scene and leaving me troubled for nights till I’ve watched the second episode. This is a drama that will definitely leave you wanting more after each episode. The pacing of the drama was really good (not for the last episode). Things didn’t happen to fast or too slow. All the members of the cast pulled-off all their roles really great. Their excellent acting added to the reason why last friends became such a good drama. What I didn’t like that much in the drama was it’s inconsistency on some of their episodes( episodes 5-7) and uhhh the last episode was pretty much like a fast-forwarded version of  what’s supposed to be 3 episodes all jammed into one. That was the only part of the drama that I found really too fast-paced. But then again, I understand that the drama only has 11episodes (unlike korean dramas) which makes them need to fit everything in such a small timeframe. But overall, last friends is definitely a good watch. 😀

Here’s the opening song. It’s entitled Prisoner of love by Utada Hikaru. Addicting song.

You can watch it in mysoju or you can do what I did. I’ve downloaded every episode (which was like uhh…once a week when It was still ongoing in Japan) in d-addicts via torrent. They already have the complete series with hard subs by Kioku.

Now, go run away and watch last friends. You won’t regret it. Unless you’re really not the type who likes watching human dramas.
